Clean structured shapes are amplified and embellished with texture and oxidisation to give each handcrafted piece a unique and contemporary look and feel. Inspiration for the collection began as a series of experiments on how to transform silver and its surface, which evolved into the intricate and tactile jewellery you see here.
Hello, I'm Emma Hender, the jewellery designer behind these creations. Every piece is handmade in my Nottingham studio using the traditional skills and techniques of jewellery-making that I learnt early on in my career – a craft and set of values I treasure today. In my work I combine these techniques with contemporary finishes to create the ready-to-wear and bespoke pieces in my collections.
I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in textiles and surface design, which is something that heavily influences my work. My fascination with shape and texture is always inspiring me and I find constant inspiration from the places I go and the people I meet. Whether it’s the coral reef I have seen snorkeling or the texture of the bark on a tree – even the smallest of things can spark an idea.
My belief is that every piece of jewellery is special and has its own story. That’s one of the reasons why I love working with clients to make their ideas a reality, creating something that’s personal and meaningful.
